Austin Busch

Austin Busch's soulful, heartfelt and at times rockin tunes have delivered him a loyal fan base and a fast growing reputation. His approach is refreshing and his ability to fuse blues with gypsy/jazz and folk traditions is truly impressive. This natural affinity to the blues and soul began at an early age and has helped him define a style that is all his own.

Original tunes move from soulful ballads about the rivers that run wild to gypsy-jazz sessions that evoke a caravan park in Bulgaria and stompin blues tunes that are right at home in the festivals scene. This diversity of style has allowed Austin to wrack up an impressive number and variety of gigs. From blues sessions at the Melbourne Fringe festival to playing to serious Jazz enthusiasts at the Wangaratta festival of Jazz and packing venues out at the Queenscliff Music Festival.

If you have seen Austin live you will agree that his style refuses to be tied down to any particular genre. Descriptions can range from soulful blues, folk roots to gypsy with a bit of reggae in there as well. His music has been likened to the raw emotion of the blues, the smooth vocals of Jeff Buckley and the energy of old time Jazz.

It was on the piano that Austin started his musical journey. Beating out old ragtime classics and blues numbers from an early age. It wasn't until much later that he picked up the guitar. This fact is hard to believe when you catch Austin live. His finger pickin' tunes and unique voice make hordes of rowdy festival goers fall silent in appreciation and then in the next song get them all up dancing and slapping their knees. This has lead to sessions supporting artists such as Bob Brozman (USA) and Dallas Frasca. Testament to this is his ability to survive as an independent artist in an industry that lauds signed acts and record labels. From his early beginnings he took this quite literally designing, printing and pressing his first cd himself. 2007 saw the recording and the release of ‘Live in Fitzroy' a live gig recorded by Jimi Maraudas. The tracks show off the bands eclectic sounds and catch the energy of a live gig with upright bass, drums, fiddle, harmonica and guitar. The tracks laid down display a sound that can be both raw and smooth at the same time. With his first cd "Frame of Mind" sold out this new offering is set to make a big impression.
